Work
Philosophy

My work philosophy is based on the belief that the key to success in any work environment is cultivating a culture of collaboration, empathy, and positivity. I always believe in the importance of considering the happiness and well-being of others in our pursuit of personal and professional success.

Team Work

The concept of "In the joy of others, lies our own" speaks directly to the importance of team and individual contributions in the work environment. When we prioritize the success and well-being of our colleagues, we create a culture of collaboration and support that benefits everyone involved. By leveraging each other's strengths and celebrating each other's successes, we create a sense of unity and shared purpose that drives us to achieve extraordinary results

COMMUNICATION

Effective communication style in the workplace is essential to achieving success as a team and promoting individual growth. When we communicate with empathy and respect, we create an environment that fosters collaboration, innovation, and creativity. Communication is not just about expressing our own ideas but also listening to and understanding others' perspectives. By actively engaging with our colleagues and clients and valuing their contributions, we can build relationships based on mutual respect and trust. In doing so, we create a work culture where communication is a tool for achieving shared goals, promoting personal growth, and finding joy in each other's success.

Personal Growth

As it is said "What we think, we become", it emphasizes the importance of mindset in personal and professional growth. When we approach professional development with a growth mindset, we open ourselves up to new possibilities and opportunities for learning and improvement. We recognize that our thoughts and attitudes shape our experiences, and by cultivating a positive and open-minded approach, we can achieve great things. Professional development is a key part of this mindset, as it helps us to expand our knowledge, skills, and abilities, and to become the best version of ourselves.

CAREER GOALS

Why GIS?

For problem-solving and decision-making, geographic information systems (GIS) combine the strength of relational database management systems with the adaptability of cartographic presentation technologies.

I learned about GIS from my prior employment and concluded that pursuing a career in this field would be advantageous for my long-term career goals of working in public services or animal welfare.

GIS is a versatile tool that can benefit a wide range of public services, from emergency response planning to urban planning. By using GIS, public service organizations can improve data management, decision-making, and service delivery, ultimately leading to better outcomes for their communities.

Short Term Career Goals

My short-term goal is to leverage my ongoing internship experience at the City of Lethbridge - Electric Utility to deepen my expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). I am committed to applying advanced GIS techniques in real-world scenarios, focusing on enhancing my skills in spatial data analysis, geospatial modeling, and the integration of GIS with utility infrastructure. Over the next few months, I aim to take on more complex projects, collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, and contribute innovative solutions to optimize utility systems. By doing so, I seek to refine my technical abilities, build a strong professional network, and position myself for future leadership roles in the GIS and civil engineering sectors.

Long Term Career Goals

Looking ahead, my long-term career goal is to contribute to public service or work in an industry focused on environmental sustainability and animal welfare, combining my passion for GIS with my dedication to making a positive impact. I envision utilizing my GIS expertise to support industries in effectively managing and analyzing spatial data to address critical environmental and social challenges, ultimately fostering sustainable practices and safeguarding our natural world.

Additionally, I am motivated to explore the intersection of GIS and animal-related industries, leveraging geospatial information to aid in conservation efforts, habitat management, or sustainable urban planning with a focus on wildlife preservation. By harnessing GIS technology, I aim to play a pivotal role in mitigating environmental threats and ensuring the well-being of our planet's diverse ecosystems.

By pursuing an internship in GIS, I recognize the immense value it holds in shaping my career trajectory. The practical experience gained through an internship will not only enhance my technical skills but also provide insights into the real-world applications of GIS in various sectors. This hands-on exposure will enable me to refine my problem-solving abilities, collaborate with professionals in the field, and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities within GIS.

Overall, I am committed to utilizing my GIS expertise to contribute to the betterment of society, whether it be through public service, environmental sustainability, or animal welfare. I see my internship as a crucial stepping stone toward achieving my long-term goals, allowing me to build a solid foundation in GIS while paving the way for meaningful contributions in the future.

Skills

Software

One of the software tools that I have experience using is AutoCAD, which is a computer-aided design software used for creating 2D and 3D designs. Another software that I am working with is ArcGIS Pro, which is a GIS software used for mapping, spatial analysis, and data management. Additionally, I have experience using Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Access, Project, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Visio. I have also worked with Water GEM, a water distribution network modeling software, and DOSBox, an emulator program that allows running old DOS software on modern computers.

Data Management

In my professional work experience, I have been involved in data management and technical reporting. This includes collecting, analyzing, and manipulating data in various projects, work tasks, and campaigns, and making databases for them. I have also written technical reports for these projects to communicate the findings to different stakeholders.

Programming

I have experience in programming, specifically in Python and SQL. These programming languages have been useful in my work experience where I had to manipulate and analyze large datasets. By using programming languages, I have been able to automate repetitive tasks and make data processing more efficient.

Team Work

Teamwork is another skill that I have developed through various experiences. For example, in my academic final project, I had to work with a team of students to complete a project. I have also managed large-scale events in BAPS, which involved coordinating with different teams and individuals to ensure the events ran smoothly. Additionally, I was a captain in my previous college football team, where I had to work closely with my teammates to achieve our goals.

Communication

Communication is an important skill that I have developed through various experiences. For example, I have participated in consultant meetings where I have had to present my findings and answer questions from clients. I have also hosted and anchored events in BAPS, which has allowed me to develop my public speaking skills. Additionally, I have welcomed and met with delegates at events, which has helped me to build relationships with people from different backgrounds.
